Gunter Lishy was a German who made a living in northern BC trapping and prospecting. His craftsmanship, perfection and attention to detail in building log cabins was legendary in the region.
Hans Hatzig remembers his friend Gunter and sent these photos.

Hans Hatzig & Gunter Lishy
I used to know Gunter Lishy very well. He was living in the same Bunkhouse next door to my room during the wintertime, when he was employed in Cassiar to cleanup the Bunkhouses. In the years before 1957, I guess, he worked in Cassiar during the summertime as well.
Gunter was a man I will always remember as a Gentlemen through and through, very honourable, always friendly and kind hearted. I will never forget him for the rest of my life!
The cabin you see on the photograph, was his first one. It is at Chain Lake, Gunter is in the middle, the fellow on the left side in the picture I dont know anymore. During the wintertime I used to stay there for 1 or 2 weeks. Gunter was busy working in Cassiar, so I could stay there as long as I wanted to.
It is interesting to know, during the wintertime you could see there a couple of horses, 6 or 8 of them, running in this area. An outfitter kept them during the winter month nearby. I have saddled a horse and tried to ride it, but the horse did not move away from the others. Always going around in a circle!
Memories - - - over 50 Years ago, I love them!
Sadly Gunter Lishy was murdered by crazed killer, because his fingernails were so clean the madman didn't believe he was real.
The story is documented in this book "Descent into Madness, the Diary of a Killer"
